Short post today…

fixin101

Lately some people have been emailing me about ways they can improve there sales copy in record time…

Thing is most people tell me they’re thinking…

“WHY THE HELL AM I NOT SELLING WITH THIS SALES LETTER?”

So here’s what’s gonna happen today just for you…

Today you’re gonna discover the “Top 3 Mistakes People make when writing sales copy”… So let’s jump straight in…

1) Headlines…

This is a pretty obvious choice but it’s starting to bug me and people as well, exactly how people go about writing headlines. Now thankfully some people can write one headline and bam it sells… other people like yours truly, have to spend about an hour of writing 20+ headlines to find the right one…

There is an art and science to writing brilliant headlines for products and we’ll get to it shortly…

The truth here is that you need to spend about 80% of your time on your headline, remember the 80/20 rule… (80% of everything you do will produce 20% of your results and 20% of all you do will produce 80% of your results). Allow me to explain how that works in Copywriting… You spend 80% of your time on the headline because it gets your foot in the door of your customer, gets them to sit there and read/listen to your sales message. The 20% you get back is them reading your body copy.

Here you spend 20% of your time writing your body copy but it produces 80% of the result…. Do you see the beauty? Your 80% gets your foot in the door for your 20% to do the work. Another quick point, people seem to write this generic headline…

“Who else would like to (enter the rest of the headline)”

I don’t know about you but that is pretty ambiguous, it’s not at all labelled to the person your pitching to. Imagine this before you post it, read out your headline to someone and see if it works.

IF, and it’s pretty big IF, that “Who else would like” stuff seems to fly, then go for it, but 9 outta 10 times it flounders and fails pretty badly.

Just a quick tip: If you are writing something like this…

“[HEADLINE] Who else….”

Do yourself a favour and change it to…

“[HEADLINE] Here’s how/why/what”

That in itself ups your conversions.

So with headlines make sure you keep them fixed at 80% of your effort.

Next up….

2) The Body Copy:

Okay so we covered base one… Now base two. This isn’t going to be too long because this can be a whole post in itself…

The biggest mistake writing body copy is…

You DON’T talk your copy.

The old Sales quote comes in here;

“A sales letter is nothing more than your sales pitch on paper”.

Make sure you stick to that, because I know if you speak to your prospect all pompous, you ain’t making jack! So that’s pretty much the 2nd biggest mistake in writing copy…. Now on to the Biggie….

3) The Close… Asking for cash:

This is the one that matters most. Mainly because you can have a killer headline, amazing story to tell in the body copy but if you don’t close, they ain’t closing themselves.

I know, I know, we all wish they would but most writers sell from the heels…. To quote John Carlton. This is when they say something that translates to… “yeah go ahead and buy it if you really want, don’t worry let me know if you buy”.

As opposed to it translating to, “Buy this now because someone else will and you’re gonna miss out yet again”…

So that’s the 3 area’s most writers need to get sorted.
